frequently asked...questions!

ever since making the announcement, people have been asking me the same questions about my move to school in the fall. instead of sounding like a broken record, here are all of the FAQ's i remember and the answers below.

1. when do you leave?
my move in date is august 19th. whether i actually move that day is sorta up in the air but that's the day i am shooting for.

2. are you excited about school?
hell yea! but i'm also really really really really really really nervous. really nervous. because there's so much unknown in my future, i'm really scared.

3. follow up question to #2 - why are you so scared?
this will be my first time EVER leaving ny and it feels weird to start all over in a new place. adjusting is going to be a problem for me...but i hope to be so busy that i don't even notice.

4. where are you living?
in graduate housing - which is a fancy way of saying "a dorm". because the program is so short, i figured i would make my living and eating (i'm also on a meal plan) while i'm up there easy.

5. how are you paying for school?
none of your damn business! "throw dem 'bows!" (if you don't know that reference, we are not friends).

6. do you feel ready?
...no...and yes! at first, i felt really unprepared and nervous about all of the work that's ahead of me. but, as i get closer to heading to school, i realized that i have a lot to offer the program and i'm excited about sharing my own knowledge with my peers!

7. what is your boo going to do?
this should probably be the #2 question people ask me. after lots of discussions and thinking and advice and more talking, the boo decided that he will stay here in nyc for the year and we'll figure things out after that. if my program had been longer, maybe things would have been different but it's so short that it doesn't seem worth it to disrupt his life.

8. what will you be studying?
i'm going to be studying...(drum roll please)...learning and teaching at the graduate school of ed.

9. what are your plans for after school/what do you want to do with your degree?
this is my LEAST favorite question...i really don't know. i have a few things floating around in this brain of mine but i am also trying to be open to any and all opportunities. i hope to be back in nyc when my time is over though.

10. how do you feel about leaving your job?
i've been at my job since june '05 so leaving is going to be tough. the staff and students are my harlem family and i just can't imagine being away from them. i've learned so much from the organization and everyone associated with it i know i'm ready but i can't imagine not going to harlem everyday to work.  i still have a few weeks until my last day though so i'm trying not to think too much about it.

did i miss any other questions???

back to school stuff

my favorite time of year since i was little - back to school shopping! and since i am about to be a poor graduate student, i have picked up a few items for the upcoming year.

1. don't judge but i bought this blazer because i thought it would make me look smart. i love the color, it's thick enough to wear in the fall with sweaters, and the inside print is just so beautiful.
 h&m

2. saw someone on tumblr post this amazing bag with their initials on it so i went ahead and ordered one (for myself, my mom and my sister). i've been using it all summer to lug around my summer reading, water bottle, lunch and a few other books because i just couldn't wait to use it. it's amazing.

3. i originally bought this dress for my bday and then decided to wear the skirt version i also bought instead. i can't wait for some fancy event up at school where i can wear this dress with some nice heels.

4. i.love.moleskin. PERIOD. so i bought this 18 month, soft shell, large daily planner to help me get my life together while i'm away. i love it.

i think i'm ready for school...maybe?

and just for fun here's a gif i made on my phone of that fantastic universe print dress i bought:

nerd alert

school is making me into a straight up nerd and i haven't even stepped on campus. i walk around reading books about teaching, assign myself summer reading, write a lot more and genuinely take interest in talking to people about their school experiences. no joke.

but if you follow me on instagram or twitter, you already know all of this
summer reading that was assigned to me by school - "who's teaching your children?"
and summer reading that i assigned myself - "pedagogy of the oppressed."
i've also been compiling some awesome resources, articles and quotes on my tumblr blog. this is serious, people.

serious nerd alert.

2010

tomorrow marks 2 years since my dad passed away and not a day goes by without thinking about him. it's always the most random things that remind me of him - a budweiser can, a dude on the train with a yankees hat on, fourth of july fireworks. some days i'm angry, most days i'm just so grateful that he was in my life for as long as he was.

i just hope i'm still making him proud.

DUECES

at midnight tonight, i can officially say "dueces!!!!" to my 20's. they were filled with wonderful memories but i will be happy to leave that decade of my life behind me and move forward in my life. things are really starting to feel like...they're all falling into place!

and that makes me happy.

my etsy shop has reopened!

believe it or not, i have reopened for business on etsy!

there are only a few items listed so far but keep checking back for more. i will probably be selling items from my closet on that shop as well but for now it's all handmade stuff by me. it's possible (if i can get my butt in gear) that i will be adding more items this afternoon - including handmade rings!

surprise! there's a coupon for YOU!
all friends in my area that i can hand deliver items to will not be charged a shipping fee if you put in the code, "SeeYouSoon"!
